Doña Consuelo “Chito” Madrigal receives
“Orgullo kan Bikol” award

For her philanthropy in education, Dona Consuelo “Chito” Madrigal was cited as “Orgullo kan Bikol” (pride of Bikol) during the first Orgullo kan Bikol Awards held on February 8, 2007 at the Manila Hotel Centennial Room.
The awards which highlight the achievements of Bikolanos in the region and beyond were given to Bikolanos who have made distinct contributions in their respective fields.
 
Among the awardees was Jose Cardinal Sanchez who, for many years was prefect of the Congregation of the Clergy in Rome. Cardinal Sanchez is native of Catanduanes province.

Dona Chito’s father, Don Vicente Madrigal, hailed from Ligao, Albay and rose from humble beginnings to national prominence. Through her foundation, Consuelo “Chito” Madrigal Foundation, Dona Chito has paved the way for at least 65 students from poor families to receive quality education at the Ateneo de Naga University. The scholars are in entrepreneurship and management courses. 

Together with Dona Chito during the conferment of awards were her nieces, namely: Susana “Chu Chu” Madrigal, member of the Board of Trustees, Senator Jamby Madrigal, and Mary de Leon.

Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J, President of the Ateneo de Naga University and concurrently, Madrigal Foundation’s Bikol Branch Director, and Fr. Wilmer S. Tria, CCMF-Bikol CEO, Fr. Mario Ladra, San Lorenzo, Bulacan and Fr. Gerry de Veza of Sorsogon, were also present.

The awards were organized by the Diocese of Masbate and the Faithful Heroes’ Shining Times, Inc.
